March 22, 2019 Mike's Message - The Dream Continues

On the dawn of a monumental 50th season at Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing, I’m excited that our operations have recommenced in the Rocky Mountains this season. I was skiing up in that area in the 1960’s, and I was impressed with this area right away. I am now extremely proud to bring skiers back into this breathtaking part of the province, as it was an area that first captured my dream to start a heli-skiing operation.
In February, we began providing guests with opportunities to experience the Rocky Mountain range and stunning views of Mount Robson (the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies at 3,954 m /12,972 ft). This terrain offers guests more access to great skiing in big wide-open terrain and lots of access to the high alpine.
This historical 370,000-acre (150,000 ha.) tenure expansion was obtained in partnership with Yellowhead Helicopters (YHL), and now increases our operation size to 1.5 million acres (607,000 ha.). Together, YHL and MWHS aim to provide world-class heli-skiing in the Robson Valley… which is one of the most scenic places in the world!
YHL and our operation, are both family-owned and operated businesses and have lived and worked in the Robson Valley and Blue River area for close to 50 years. Gary Forman (founder of YHL) was the first helicopter operator that provided Bonnie and I, with our first flight with guests into BC’s glacier country in May of 1970. It’s a pleasure to continue to build upon the future together with YHL.
We hope that we can take you out to explore this terrain next season.
Let’s go skiing!
