June 29, 2018 Mike's Message - Always be Ready for Powder

How's your winter training coming along? Last week, we were honoured to welcome in summer by hosting the Gold Medal Plates 1001 km Cycling Challenge group, on route from Lake Louise to Whistler. The 26-rider tour included Olympic cycling medalist Curt Harnett and friends, cycling in support of raising money for young Canadian athletes. Cycling is one of my favourite ways of staying in shape and this group has me thinking about training for winter and my annual Tour De Blue cycling trip in August.
This week, the fresh snow on Blue River’s mountain peaks had everyone in Wiegele World dreaming about skiing. Our resort has opened up for the months, and travellers from all parts of the globe are enjoying our winter facilities and the picturesque Eleanor Lake.
Bonnie and I are enjoying the menu at our Saddle Mountain Restaurant, located across the Yellowhead Highway, from the resort. Our executive Toni Spöri and pastry chef Stefan Loesch, are busy creating decadent delights for summer travellers, while picking and preserving the freshest of local seasonal ingredients. I invite everyone traveling through to try the pie, made with local fruit. It is incredible.
This winter, we are excited to open a new run on Ptarmigan and two new runs on Chelsea’s, in the Monashee Mountain Range. Last week I flew over Ptarmigan to take a look and I can’t wait to officially open them in December.
Hope to see you in the mountains next winter.... let's go heli-skiing!!!
