We all have a first time and with it comes then anxiousness of the unknown but the excitement of the anticipation. Do you remember your first heli tracks? In a recent article published in the UK Telegraph, skier Charles Starmet-Smith tells the beautiful tale of his experience of being a European skier and traveling to experience the famous powder of BC. He dispels the common heli myths that are often in the back of the minds of most people such as the level of expertise required and the fear of not having powder skills. "...one of the myths about heli-skiing is that it is only for experts...any half-decent skier can learn to carve with minimal effort through the light virgin powder...after 20-odd years of skiing in Europe, I could count the number of true powder days on one hand..." click for the full story.
Because some of us want powder year-round, we don't have to go far from Blue River to get it - no matter what time of year. Paradise Glacier was the magical location of the first turns of the season by local guest Dave Hodge. Accompanying him on this spectacular adventure was Mike Wiegele, guides Bob, Erin, Andy and Director of Sales - Daniela. Their cheek to cheek grins only remind us of what is just around the corner. Put the golf clubs away and dig out the skiis. Get ready because the snow is falling and it is going to be another deep, deep powder season.
Congratulations to Robert Kay for the 7 Day Deluxe Heliski package Comment Card Draw winner. We value your opinion. During the Spring Fling festivities in April, the winner was drawn. Thank you Robert for your comments and we are looking forward to skiing with you next season.
As part of Spring Fling 2008 the Canadian Alpine Ski Team and the Carlsberg winners joined us in the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains. The team was lucky to take a break from Olympic training and switch to powder skiis and enjoy the scenery, atmosphere and amenities of Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing.
The 2008 Kids Spring Ski & Snowboard Camp brought together 20 kids of all ages for the successful camp on Saddle Mountain. Everyone was transported to Saddle Mountain by helicopter and then trained by Snow Cat. Participants benefited from the expertise of the MWHS Ski Guides who are also trained Ski/Snowboard instructors. In addition, all participants were trained on outdoor mountain skills.
Against the backdrop of the perfect Blue River mountains, the Saddle Mountain Master Development agreement was signed on April 12, 2007. Joined by friends and dignitaries, Mike Wiegele spoke proudly of his concept for a new world-class ski resort and village master plan that will offer lift, snowcat and heliski access to the magnificent Cariboo and Monashee mountains. The four season resort will offer ski in/ski out lodging and private residences with panoramic views overlooking the Thompson Valley into glacier mountain peaks. Learn more about how you can be involved in the exclusive Resort at Saddle Mountain.
