At Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing we believe in the importance of balancing the economic and business goals of our organization with the environmental and social responsibilities of operating in the unparalleled beauty of the North Thompson Valley. Our Heli Ski Village Resort operates from the heart of the community of Blue River and we care committed to the long term health of this community and the people who live here.
Each of our employees is encouraged to participate in community events in the Blue River area. Some of our current projects include operating a spawning channel to improve the fishing in Eleanor Lake; hosting an annual community childrens Christmas party and participating and providing in the Canada Day celebration as well as offering a complimentary heli ski and snowcat instruction program to students of the North Thompson Valley.
During the winter season we provide on site medical services so residents do not need to travel 2 hours on winter roads to the nearest physician. Local residents are encouraged to work for the Resort and are eligible for extensive training and advancement opportunities.
MWHS is committed to mountain safety and assists in emergency rescues for recreational mountain enthusiasts and workers throughout the year.
Working with local First Nations and understanding both their history and their future goals is central to Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing operations. Accordingly, the Simpcw First Nation and MWHS have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that strengthens our relationship with this important local partner. Together the Simpcw First Nation and MWHS have developed agreements related to job training, contract work, and educational programs and are working together to plan for future joint business ventures .
At Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing we know that our employees are our most valuable asset - so we work hard to make sure that they have rewarding work and an exceptional lifestyle outside of work. Our wages are highly competitive, and our subsidized housing and food services mean that our employees are able to save money while working in Blue River throughout the year. Our employees are encouraged to socialize with guests and many make friendships that last from year to year. We offer opportunities for advancement in all departments and ensure that each employee is supported in their effort to provide excellent customer service every day.
Many of our highly skilled employees have come to Blue River from other countries and we enthusiastically support their efforts to obtain Canadian citizenship.
In March 1996, six friends sat together talking about the Bruderschaft in St. Christoph, Austria, and its history of helping people since the 14th century. These friends decided to start a similar organization with those who come to Blue River to ski, hike, and live. Open to women and men through invitation by a member, monies are collected through membership and used to assist those in need or to fund worthy projects in the community of Blue River.
With more than 520 members, the Brudeschaft has recenlty provided funds for Blue River residents challenged by cancer, illness and accident; have supported a local family devestated by house fire and will help the community update the local hockey rink.
